and this san francisco. as we take a look at the satellite and radar picture the wet weather is still to the north. it is not in the bay area just yet but the increase in cloud coverage. the of tech in wind later tonight and of course we have wet weather that will make landfall. the futurecast. mainly through santa rosa, petaluma just a light rain to begin. as we go for overnight this yellow is indicating moderate/heavy. that will continue to grow its way south. approaching the golden gate it. everybody will wake up to showers with areas of heavy rainfall for tomorrow. keep your umbrella candy. it is going to be wet with 4 in. of rain fall in the north bay and 1 in.-3 in. everywhere else 54 degrees expected in fairfield. 57 in the pleasanton, vallejo, livermore, your kron 4 7 day around the bay wet weather will stick around into the weekend. it is certainly going to be wet. but the good news is that the temperatures are not that bad. with low 40's. as we go for this monday, the slight possibility of rainfall. however, sunshine possible for the afternoon. mostly sunny skies for christm

chilly night across the bay area. >> right now in san francisco it's about 46 and going down. meteorologist julie watts in the weather center says big changes are on the way. >> that's right. we're already seeing temperatures dropping this evening. in fact, freezing in santa rosa, 32 degrees right now. a bit warmer in san jose at 45. 46 in san francisco, as you mentioned. 35 in livermore. and 34 in concord. yes, these temperatures are chilly and we are going to see cold temperatures overnight, just not quite as cold as last night, due in part to some increasing clouds. it will be wet and windy for the extended forecast. i'll time it all out for you, coming up in just a bit. >>> if you think it's cold here in the plains, drivers in several states are being warned not to drive at all because of all that snow. this was the scene in nebraska where crews worked very hard to keep roads open. >>> in newtown, connecticut, three more families buried their children today, along with the teacher who gave her life trying to save them. >> reporter: firefighters from across the northeast c

'll see the frosty lawns out there. 42 degrees in san francisco. this will be the last of the frigid cold nights. we have a slow moving storm and clouds coming in the temperatures will be hemmed up the next couple 6 days. this will be very slow mover. let me show you the computer animation, 1:00 p.m., just some clouds approaching the north bay. by 5:00 p.m. the rain line is north of santa rosa and around ukiah area, as we head into the overnight hours, friday morning, we start to get some rain. computer models are backing off on the intensity of the storm. we're still going with light to moderate rain at friday morning. 9:00 a.m. the front is moving through. we have just scattered showers behind it. at times it may be briefly on the moderate side. by 2:00 a.m. saturday, another band of heavier rain moving in. could see snow around lake county. that is the indication, cold nature of the storm once again. saturday afternoon, we'll start to see sun. rainfall totals, up to 5 inches in the north bay mountains. santa cruz up to 3 inches and less across the rest of the bay area. wind will be pic

this weekend across the country, in oakland and san francisco, the same scene. a record-breaking gun buyback. almost 600 guns taken off the streets. each gun exchanged for $200. people waited in long and cold lines for hours for the chance to make that exchange in oakland and san francisco. the guns the city has collected will be cross referenced with a database to make sure they were not used in any crime. and then those guns will be melted down and turned into less deadly things like park benches and signposts. i bet if anybody needed plowshares, they could make those too. those weapons in california were collected by the police, but the buyback part was funded by nonprofit groups, including $100,000 donation from a guy who runs a medical marijuana dispensary. and apparently that's a good way to make a lot of money. in brooklyn, new york this weekend, people went to trade guns for debit cards at two different locations. the program was run by the police and the brooklyn district attorney's office. more than 130 guns were turned in in exchange for up to $200 a gun. in evanston, illinois, no

shooting at a loppers in san francisco in 1993. where a crazed gunman with an assault weapon killed eight people and wounded another six people. one of those people was a brave young lawyer who threw his body over his life to save hers. that young man was one of my sons best friends. i can tell you beyond a shadow of a doubt how these horrific and senseless tragedies live on forever. the parents and spouses and children, their families, it changes their lives forever. since 1999, which was the year of the massacre at columbine high school, we have tried to talk about this. 250 students, teachers, and others, have been killed in school shootings. another 212 have been wounded. due to gun violence in our schools. i will break down just some of those. a 2005 shooting at red lake high school in minnesota left five people injured. an amish schoolhouse shooting in pennsylvania in 2006 left it's dead and five injured. a gunman killed 33 and wounded 23 others at virginia tech in 2007. earlier this year, seven people were killed and three were injured at oakland university. the slaughter of innoce
